The central Library of Sulaimania was established in 1968 with the establishment of the University of Sulaimani.From 1968 until 1981, the library has been open having several units and an active staff. It always attempted to find recent sources such as books, Newspapers and Magazines in different languages such as Kurdish, Arabic, French, Persian, Russian and English.

In spite of what the Library went through , it was constantly in service as a cultural office for knowledge .

After the Kurdish uprising 1991, the library had been re-establishment of the University of Sulaimani.

Central Library is composed of units such as: Borrowing, Index, Classification, Dictionary, Magazines, Journals,Newspapers, Periodicals, Theses, Internet and Electrical Store, Personal and Accountancy units, also several reading Halls.Around forty-four staff members of Librarians and Administrators are serving Lectures.

We obtain resources through purchase or as a gift  from several sources.

The Library systematized scientifically and (KOHA) software is being used for the international connections that serve Scholars,Lectures, Students and Readers.

Library has Copying,Scanning and Printing Services, Copping is free,Theses, Periodicals and References can be copping, every user can copy 3 up to 5 papers for each item.

In order to obtain information card, please provide the following documents:

.A college membership card or a national identity card.

.Signing a library card means that the reader is satisfied with the library’s instructions. The library card is for local use only.
